If you been able to backup "everything that seems to matter" just erase the partition and check it with Disk Utility and then do whatever you need to do to it. If it was a System partition do a clean installation, if not, transfer back whatever you need. As an aside, I once had a similar problem where Disk Utility and Disk Warrior failed, and I finally got Tech Tool Pro to repair the partition.
