It certainly appears something in the hardware is fried. I'd start with the stuck light on the power button, but in the long run the firmware controls the initial boot device, so you'd have to assume either the PRAM/NVRAM reset procedure isn't working, or the firmware flash ROM is faulty. Either way, it's likely a big problem.
