Not to Usurp ... AFAIK, For each partition indexed:

sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/Acoustic-Piano-Leopard
sudo mdutil -E /Volumes/Acoustic-Piano-Leopard

Adding this will start it back up:

sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/Acoustic-Piano-Leopard

It might be good to add the partition name to the Privacy list in  
System Preferences > Spotlight as well.

Works for me on my QS 2002 under Leopard 10.5.7.
