It is NOT.

In fact, as has been mentioned in other threads, it's a waste of time 
to put whole volumes there.  All that does is filter the "private" 
items from the search RESULTS.  It *DOES NOT* stop Spotlight from 
indexing the volume in the first place!

Spotlight is managed by the mdutil command.

We've had at least a dozen threads about this, in this and the other 
LEM lists.  Go to the google groups page and search for "spotlight 
indexing".  There are repeated COMPLETE explanations there.
