Backup your system first, just like you would for ANY update from Apple.

Safari 4 uses the same file formats (bookmarks, etc) as Safari 3, so 
they're not converted or anything.

But the updater will plop a bunch of updated frameworks in /Library, 
in addition to the new Safari.app.  IOW, like most Apple updates, 
it's fairly destructive; can't revert just by restoring the old .app.
