I'm not clear on all of the possible context so ... Does it "show up" in either the Disk Utility or in the hardware section of the System Profiler? If you don't see it in either of those places then the next thing I'd try is attaching it as an external drive vie either USB or firewire just to verify that the drive works correctly.
