I have 3 solid state hard drives in various Macs, including a 5300cs
PowerBook. The big draw for me is the fact that they run so much
cooler; heat is what eventually kills most laptops. My Dell mini 9
with a 32 GB SSD runs for hours and is just slightly warm to the
touch. The guys on the Dell Mini Forum are big fans of RunCore SSDs,
$140 for a 32 GB drive.
