Yes. Sounds like a memory issue. Take out the one you added, and see  
if things level off. Still could be one already in the Mac.

I use memtest from Applejack, and sandwich 1 stick being tested  
between 2 others, and after the 3 permutations (combinations?), I  
suspect all three are good. The can use 2 to sandwich a new stick for  
testing.

Also make sure Master/Slave/CS settings are correct on the HDs.

Might also remove the PCI card and test with the simpler system.
