Look on the back for the model number if you don't know it's name.

It bongs first?  If so, that's good - that's the basic hardware 
self-test telling you it passed.

The "?" means that it was unable to find a bootable operating systems 
on the HD.

That's fine.  The requirement will probably be (depends on the exact 
model Mac) for PC-100.  PC-133 works fine - it's just clocked at 100 
speeds.
