Absolutely
I've got a G4 AGP with 1.5 Ghz clock that has been the hub of my
wireless
network with - but I'm going to be travelling for extended trips and

OS X Server is much more than that, in fact the same web server that
OS X server uses is part of OS X; there's no difference in that respect.
OS X and OS X Server vary only by the number of simultaneously allowed
AFP connections, a number of GUI administration tools, and a few
default settings. Otherwise all the server capabilities in OS X Server
are present in OS X.
I'd like to mainly use to grab and store files from the road.
At minimum you need to do two things:
1) Get a 'permanent' IP address from DynDNS <http://www.dyndns.com/>,
go for the free one.
2) Turn on File sharing in the Sharing pane of the System Preferences.
If your Mac is connected directly to your cable or DSL modem, this is
all you need to do. I'd make sure the firewall was turned on, and you
have a good password for the account, if you're using 10.5, go into
the file sharing options and make sure you are the only user allowed.
The you connect to your Mac from the road by going to Go> Connect to
server and entering afp://the.dyndns.address in the box.
Then you can mount your G4's disk to read and write files from.
