I'm not really talking about $500 - or $15,000 - SSD's. What's wrong
with putting a $100 SSD into a $200 laptop, especially when that SSD
can be reused in a future machine? (Or putting a $200 SSD into a $500
G5, for that matter?) And especially if it lowers your stress level
through longer laptop battery life, more quiet, no head crash at
exactly the worst moment, and more speed that allows you to get more
work done in less tme? This isn't just an academic exercise.

I consider a $250 or $500 Mac budget to be pretty low budget,
especially after looking at recent Mac Pro prices. $500 can get you a
lot of Mac now, especially if you invest some sweat equity, and know
where to shop.
