User settings should translate, user docs certainly will, apps
almost certainly not, since 10.6 doesn't include any PPC apps. Non-
Apple apps will work, so long as they're universal.
The safest way (I would think) is to find those iMac disks (or any
other 10.5 installer) and downgrade the iMac first to 10.5; OS X
will make you do an Archive&Install, then a straight migration
assistant run to the G5 will work.
NO matter what you do, make sure the iMac is backed up completely
with a known good backup before you do anything.

Thanks, Bruce. An archive & install of Leopard didn't even occur to
me, though I suppose it should've. I'll make a backup before I zap
10.6, then I'll install Leopard from my family pack. Is there any
advantage to installing Leopard from the system disc vs. the retail?
Well, actually before I do all that I need to get permission...we'll
see how that goes. I'm eager to try the experiment, though.
