I just realized that the Mac has square ends. So where does that leave

If the Mac has square ends, then it has DVI; to use an ADC monitor
with a DVI output you need this:
<http://store.apple.com/us/product/M8661LL/B>
However you described the monitor as having 'the right DVI connector'
on it.
I posted links to a picture of a DVI and and ADC connector in my
previous email. Which one does the monitor's connector look like?
If it doesn't look like either one of these, describe the connector.
If both are rectangular DVI connectors all you need is an ordinary DVI
cable, Monoprice.com carries them, cheaply.
If the monitor has a VGA port, then you can use a $3 DVI-VGA adapter
to connect them:

cable from the monitor plugs into it.
