I've installed a Mac driver for an Asus usb wireless b/g/n adapter. When it didn't detect the device I opened the Network pane in System Preferences and a pop up window appeared saying that my network settings have been changed by another application. I hit OK and the same pop up notice returns constantly and won't let me quit Preferences.

Open the Security system preferences. Check the item "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." That will prevent that infinite loop.
