Any video conversion is pretty slow. Even on my dual 2.3 G5 Handbrake takes 2 hours to convert a DVD to MP4.
I find that it does not have all the right goodies to decrypt.
You can use MacTheRipper or Mac DVDRipper Pro to decrypt, then run Handbrake on the decrypted DVD.
