Group, I have acquired a Power Mac G5, Model # A1117 produced around January 2006. Has dual 2gig PPC's, 4 gig ram. Works like a champ as my wife's main computer. I have a Apple cinema (20") attached and over all couldn't be happier.
However! (Always one of these, "However's" not too far away.) It is very silent. No noticeable fan noise at all! When I start it up there is a "Red" glowing light behind and above the start up button that goes on with the white light indicating power on. This red indicator stays on for perhaps one or two seconds, no longer, and then start up proceeds with the chime and boot up. Is this normal for this type of machine? Is the red light trying to tell me something? I have a earlier (2005) model that has fans that go on during start up and when any work is being done and they make a real racket. You can't miss them. And there is no "Red" light. I know this is a different build and there are considerable differences inside the machines. Both do the jobs asked of them well, one quietly and one with some attendant fan noise. Should I worry? Should I just shut up and enjoy? Why do the chickens cross the road? Inquiring minds want to know! Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.
