The reason why a PPC and an intel can both boot from 10.4 and 10.5 is because they have both the intel and the PPC code. Since they have both processor architecture codes, it won't care if it's a PPC or intel. It will only care if it has a bootup volume. I have an Internal 2.5" 320GB SATA HDD hooked up through a card I got up off of newegg, and it has an emergency copy of Leopard on it just in case I need help. It works on my Spring 2010 Mac Pro and on my iSaw.
