Not sure how to dredge up an old thread since I receive the digest so cannot
hit reply to an individual topic.

I had a problem a few weeks ago with a ticking PSU on my quicksilver and was
advised to replace with either a stock psu or adapt an atx power supply.

In the end I went down the conversion route and after a few hours wasted
pushing staples down atx connectors I gave up and bought a connector from Ebay.
This came with instructions for fitting (swap round the 4 pin power connector,
another half hour with the staples) and connect the casing fan to a spare
connection (about 5 minutes work with cable-strippers and insulating tape)

Pretty stress free really, with the only permanent alteration being the fan
connection. I have the case open with the atx unit sat next to the machine and
it runs great now. There is no 25v supply provided but i've not missed this (i
think it is only required for sleep mode)

If anyone finds themselves in the same situation, i got the cable for around
£10 from an ebay seller called jennys79 on the UK Ebay site.

Anyway, thanks again for all the information from the group.
