Hi guys, anyone here tried having ubuntu on a G4 450MHz sawtooth?
Does it run flash well?
Since you specifically requested info on Flash, you might check out
Geexbox http://www.geexbox.org/ which is a tiny (Unix/Linux like) OS
specifically designed to make your G4 a media player, also called HTPC
(Home Theater PC) or MCA (Media Center Appliance). It will load from a
thumb drive it's so small and portable. You can try out GeeXBox just
loading it into RAM - which is what I did at first. This took roughly 20
minutes including the time to download the OS, burn it onto a CD and
start it up on a G4. If you like it enough to install onto a hard drive,
you may. Unfortunately work was suspended on this OS in 2007.
For the same sort of HTPC/MCA thing but newer (as in still being
updated) and as an add-on for your requested OS ubuntu, there is
mythbuntu http://www.mythbuntu.org/ The later would probably be more
what you are looking for.
