A note to clarify: Yes, a Sawtooth shipped originally with 8.6. However, during it's production run that changed to be some version of system 9. As far as I know, actually getting 8.6 to run on a Sawtooth that did not ship with 8.6 initially is quite the task--it requires finding the appropriate boot rom that is apparently hard to track down. Plus I don't know if any firmware updates got rid of 8.6 bootability.
In short, system 9.0.4 is safe for any Sawtooth, and if you can track down the original install disks from an 8.6 sawtooth you may be able to run 8.6 as well. But I haven't had any luck with my sawtooth on anything prior to 9. -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
