A note to clarify:  Yes, a Sawtooth shipped originally with 8.6.
However, during it's production run that changed to be some version of
system 9.  As far as I know, actually getting 8.6 to run on a Sawtooth
that did not ship with 8.6 initially is quite the task--it requires
finding the appropriate boot rom that is apparently hard to track
down.  Plus I don't know if any firmware updates got rid of 8.6
bootability.

In short, system 9.0.4 is safe for any Sawtooth, and if you can track
down the original install disks from an 8.6 sawtooth you may be able
to run 8.6 as well.

But I haven't had any luck with my sawtooth on anything prior to 9.
