I recently bought a used PowerMac G5 Quad Core 2.5MHz (late 2005)
which came without any software. When I tried to install OS 10.4
(Tiger) from a retail DVD, it produced a kernel panic.
I was able to install from the DVD by connecting the PM G5 to a G4,
putting the G5 into FireWire target disk mode, and putting the DVD
into the G4's DVD drive.
I doubt that the problem is in the G5's DVD drive, because it has not
had a problem with any other DVD or CD, including booting from a
DiskWarrior DVD.
Any ideas as to the cause of the problem?
Thanks in advance.
