The router in the modem is not just connecting you to the Internet, it is also forming a LAN (Local Area Network). This allows computers to communicate. It's not that one computer can see what is running on another computer, it's that the first computer with FCP running is announcing itself on the network (being a server) and the FCP on the second computer is querying the service on the first computer and sees it is running FCP with the same serial number.
