I have a Powerbook G4 867, and a (recently acquired) Powermac G5 DP 2.7, both with OSX 10.4.11. Today I connected them with a Firewire 400 cable to transfer some file thru Target disk mode.
- When I used the G5 as "main" Mac and the PB as Target, it tooks ages to mount the Target disk (3 partitions), and the transfer speed was abysmal (like 10 minutes for a 200 MB file). :-( - I tried the reverse, using the PB as "main" and the G5 in Target mode, and everything went fine, copying 2GB in like 2-3 minutes. Since the second transfer went fine, both the FW cable and the ports are working, I think. I honestly can't imagine what's going wrong in the first case (G5 as "main" Mac). I already used that PB as Target disk in the past, always flawlessly.
