AFAIK, everything will still run with a G5 (being it still PPC).

With Intel Macs (and using up to OSX 10.6), they should still run under
Rosetta (kind of PPC emulator), but that COULD mean they'd be slower
(and/or, with music application, there could be issue with hardware
drivers).

I just got a G5 2.7 DP and, coming from a G4 DA 1.4 GHz, I love the
increased speed. :-)
Adobe CS3 apps aren't sluggish anymore.

The only big issue in going from a G4 to G5 is, you cannot boot into OS9
anymore.
