I suppose everything has a price at which it will sell, but I'd recommend a G4 as the lowest level Mac worth buying. The 1.25 GHz MDD G4 are going for $150 or less and if I may say, are the sweet spot for MIPS/$ when it comes to old Macs. It will run Leopard fairly well, and I still use mine for digitizing video (via an external digitizer thru firewire).
To directly answer the question, yes, the G3 burns just fine.
