I had a pretty fickle G5 dual 1.8 that hated ram in ways I still do not understand.
My dual 2.3 require something like 28 attempts to get all 8 sticks of RAM to recognize correctly. It was a very frustrating experience. Once all 8 were recognized I've had no problems, which has been a few years of daily use. I'd say that G5's are super finicky and it's unlikely your RAM is bad, it's more likely your G5 is crazy fickle.
