hello

someone just gave me a dual 2.0 g5 but there is no video output from the card.

Hello Rumble:

As others have said, machine specs are important, Ha!, we tell you this, then don't tell you where to go, www.everymac.com will help you a lot towards this. Get the serial number from the inside bottom and read the instructions on the Ultimate Mac lookup page.

First choice already mentioned, use known, good video card. Next, if suspicious card is AGP you might try a PCI video card separately or together with your suspect one.

Second, remove or disconnect all external devices, DVD drive cable, hard drive cable, all PCI cards except video card and use only the minimum two sticks of RAM, please research the RAM placement yourself (basically, should be identical pairs, start with middle slots, work outward, but it may depend, so research)

Third, check suspect card in known good machine.

Fourth, start G5 without video card, let sit for 5 minutes. Shutdown. Replace video card, restart.

Fifth, if you have another Mac, start G5 in target disk mode, firewire to working Mac. Does G5 drive mount.

Sorry for terseness. July 4 wore me out.

Bob
