That's up to you, but I wouldn't. When my iMac's internal optical drive stopped working, I just bought an external Asus drive on Amazon: <https://www.amazon.it/gp/product/B00BGJ5XMY/> It's cheap and it's been working flawlessly. No problem with the USB 2.0 connection. It's one more gadget on the desk, but it's tiny and I use it every now and then, so an external unit suits me fine.
