Summary: GAIM libraries should be LGPL or not installed to /usr/lib

Initial Comment:

I notice that the libgaim-client.so and libgaim.so libraries are GPL'ed. It
would be better if these libraries could be released under the LGPL license so
that other programs can use these libraries.

If these libraries really need to be GPL, could the libraries be moved to
/usr/lib/gaim since, on Solaris, we have a rule that GPL'ed libraries cannot be
shipped in /usr/lib.

Nothing about the GPL prevents other programs using the libraries, why
would it?

No.

If Solaris has such a rule, then the Solaris package of Gaim shouldn't put
the libraries in /usr/lib. If there is no Solaris package of Gaim, there is
no problem.
