Category: None Group: None >Status: Open Resolution: Works For Me Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: SirDomino (sirdomino) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Public Kiosk Mode Initial Comment: A Public Kiosk Mode, where one would be able to lock out all the settings to GAIM and prevent logs or passwords, as well as customizations from being saved. In essence, to allow GAIM to be put on a public system that would allow users to log into their favorite IM accounts without fear of their usernames/passwords being compromised or saved. This would also keep a fresh baseline GAIM setting in place that would prevent other users fromchanging GAIM settings making it less user friendly. In essence it would: 1) Lock out settings to all but the Admin 2) Prevent Usernames or Passwords from being saved 3) Prevent chat logs from being saved 4) Allow GAIM to safely be used by users on a public system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: SirDomino (sirdomino) Date: 2007-04-04 17:40 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1760298 Originator: YES I used the /dev/null as you suggested with the switch "gaim.exe -c /dev/null" and it seems to reset GAIM back to original defaults (removing all accounts/personalized settings) upon each exit/reload of the program. An innovative solution to the problem. Although a password protected 'kiosk' mode would still be nice. :) Thanks again! I appreciate the help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2007-04-04 03:04 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Originator: NO Use gaim --help for an explanation. Either use that with a script to delete the directory, or try using a non-writable or non-existant directory. /dev/null may also work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: SirDomino (sirdomino) Date: 2007-04-04 02:53 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1760298 Originator: YES so the -c command will 'lock down' the configuration/settings for the particular GAIM install and also clear out all logs, usernames, and passwords, essentially wiping it back to a 'clean slate' with each execution of GAIM with the -c parameter? If you could explain the -c parameter in further detail I would appreciate it. :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Richard Laager (rlaager) Date: 2007-04-04 02:26 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=156487 Originator: NO Why can't you do this already with the -c option? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=1693783&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
