Summary: option to have <ctrl>+key open then close tag

Initial Comment:
Often I find that it would be more convient to type a
phrase and open a format and then later close it --
without having to deal with typing around a group of
tags which are automatically inserted.

Thus as presently implemented, typing <ctrl>+b inserts

<b></b>

while the cursor is placed between the tags, unless you
want to end your im with bold, you have to move outside
of the tags. I find it more convient to be able to:

Press <ctrl>+b, inserting

<b>

Type some text, thus rendering the example:

<b>random string of text

And then <ctrl>+b to close the string:

<b>random string of text</b>

And typing some more text:

<b>random string of text</b> even longer now

While it isn't really a pressing matter, it is highly
disruptive to the natural typing process (at least mine
anyways) to have to navigate the tags as opposed to
inserting and closing them manually.

I recognize that some users may appreciate the current
functionality, which is why I only ask for it as an
optional alternative.
