Initial Comment: When GAIMHOME started being used instead of HOME in win32 lots of people had problems. Why not use the HOME variable if there is no GAIMHOME? I, and I believe many others, already have a HOME variable set for other "unixy" programs under win32 and I prefer not clutter the envionment with unnecessary variables. Please? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Luke Schierer (lschiere) Date: 2007-04-20 11:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=28833 Originator: NO As we are closing this tracker, please submit any feature request that is still valid to http://developer.pidgin.im. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Daniel Atallah (datallah) Date: 2004-12-14 11:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=325843 The impetus for the change from HOME to GAIMHOME is that exact scenario; people would have %HOME% set/changed at some point by cygwin or some other program, and suddenly the gaim profile disappeared. Using a unique environment variable prevents this confusion from happening. A few people might have had initial problems, but the vast majority of users didn't have HOME set, and so this won't affect them. I don't think you need to worry about "clutter", one more environment variable doesn't make a difference. There is potentially some validity to an argument that a registry entry should be used instead of an environment variable, but I don't really see much value in making that change. At any rate, this isn't a bug. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=350235&aid=1084997&group_id=235 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
