You are not required to use the mouse, you have the option of useing the keyboard or a joystick. If you have a laptop, I reccomend you buy a cheap optical USB mouse for the game, as a touch pad is very hard to use consistently. Although I have never played any other accessible games using the mouse, I am totally blind and playing Rail Racer with the mouse is very easy, and quite a lot of fun as well. It offers a level of control not possible with the keyboard. I plan on offering the mouse as a control option in my future games as well, including kickBoxer and Apache Gunship.
