Hi Nicol,
I found the games created for the IF contest each year are easier than full 
games since I think the games are supposed to be finished in a half hour.
One I liked was Bears night out.
You should be able to find it on the IF archive site along with all the 
competition games.

My friend Carl did an article on going through a game Maze in an earlier 
Audyssey when we put out the game
HAZE MAZE.
He created a physical representation of the maze with push pins stuck into 
cardboard, such as a lid to a pizza box.
When starting a game he would create a square with the push pins and if the 
game said there was an opening to the north he would leave a gap in the row 
of pins to the north or top of the box.
I would add a braille label in dymo tape describing the room if necessary.
I know that this procedure is slow but eventually you would get a physical 
picture of the layout of the game, and even discover areas that you have not 
explored yet.

In the case of Sarah, when you start out, hit the w key to find out where 
you are and the F key to find out which direction you are facing.By reading 
the instructions and by moving around a bit you will find that you are in 
the South Center of the maze.
So this would be on the bottom center edge of your pizza box.
put a pin in the middle of the bottom and follow the right wall putting a 
pin along the bottom of the pizza box each time you take a single step.
Now do the same with the east, North , and west walls.
Where there is an opening leave a space in the wall of pins.
And when the space opens up to the left and you turn left into the entrance 
hall and great hall, make the same turn on your pizza box .
I know that this procedure is slow but eventually you should get a physical 
picture of the layout of the level, and even discover areas that you have 
not explored yet.
