I was born in America. A neighbor of mine, before I moved to Oklahoma, was born in Mexico and moved to America and became an American citizen when he was 20. We are both Americans. He gave up his citizenship as a Mexican. He knows of people who live in Phoenix, Arizona, who work there, and who refuse to become American citizens or refuse to learn English. They are not Americans, nor do they want to be. He has given their names and all he knows about them to the immigration authorities, including where they work and who they work for, yet nothing has been done about it. He thinks that these people should be deported because they want to be Mexicans rather than Americans. You and i agree--you can be an American by birth or by choice or by both. Not African American, not Mexican American, not Asian American. One or the other, but not both. Which one is your choice. It's a free country, but where is your allegiance?
