This was a tweaked/customised version of ubuntu.
Anyway, in the readMe file for soundRTS .pyc version I see they insist on
python 2.4, FWIW.
Stay well

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Python Games On the Mac?
Hi Jacob,
Not sure what version of Ubuntu you tried, but version 12.04 and later
use Python 2.7. Ubuntu and most Linux distributions haven't used
Python 2.5 for two or three years. However, I agree with the point
that 2.7 is the current stable release. Anything less than 2.7 is old,
and if she is really running 1.4 that thing must be 10 years old or
more. :D
Cheers!

Most widely adopted/largely in use version of python nowadays is 2.7 as
far
as I know - but/and, that' s what I work on/run on my windows PC, and
when
recently tested/tried out something on a ubuntu/linux machine it seemed
to
be running version 2.5.
Either way, just asking since would guess that that might be an issue if
python 1.4 is a bit out of date/old?
Unless, I'm just mistaken, and that version number has something specific
to
do with it's implementation on a mac machine..?
Could otherwise, also try out one of those .pyc files for you if you
like,
and see if they operate on this windows machine, running python 2.7,
since
also have pyGame installed here, etc., but anyway..?
Stay well
