Agreed with Thomas on his both messages. and I also have started learning Pithon myself. it seems pretty nice to me.
and if you want to start at really beginner level then, I'll suggest "GWBasic". its true purpose is to teach the newbees how to do programming from scratch. but Iam not sure that whether it is available on other OS's except windows. with best regards.
