Well the nav menue will always show you planets in order of closest first, and that is really the only way to go to a planet. You can also use the links in your status screen to the rumours section to set navigation points to go to areas of space you get rumours in as well. Star traders is a little different from smugglers or core exiles, you don't get the planets and systems all layed out neetly to look between, you just have to set a nav point and go, but it's possible to get used to.
