Hi Michael, Perhaps, but it is a case of several things coming together which we apparently do not have in our community right now. First, we have to have one or more developers interested in doing such a project. Second, one or more developers with the skills to do it in the first place. Finally, the time and financial resources available to pull off such an audacious project.
I am sure there is interest in the gaming community to have such a game. I'm certain you aren't the only one who would like to see such a game. It isn't a case of such a game being unwanted, but more a matter of no developers who want to take the time and money to create one. What you are asking for is neither simple or easy, and would require a huge commitment from any developers who takes on such a job. Cheers!
