Hi Davy, I figured a silent fireplace in an audio game would not be easy to find. I put them in as a way to locate where you are in a room.. If you enter a room and the fireplace is to your right then you should be able to find the door to get out easier. As for the summer temperature in Scotland at night in July, I will have to check.
