Hello,
Some characters such as raiden have teleport moves that will put you 
directly behind your opponent. Also if you try performing a backward dash, 
this will provide some distance between you and your opponent. As Brandon 
said though, do not worry too much about distance. Mortal kombat mainly 
consists of attacking, then blocking,  with a few parries and breakers 
thrown in for good measure. Battles are very intense and people don't 
usually run away from their opponents, unless they just like using 
projectile moves on ya, and you'll find out if that's the case. Let me know 
once you get the game and I'll help you out. Also Brandon, I can do a review 
for the PS2 version of the game, or a better sound file,if you're willing to 
host it. Don't really have a place to put these reviews
