Hi Tom,
I can think of several variations on the distance to monster key,
1. have it say the distance automatically but allow you to toggle it on and
off.
2. Have it say the distance at the hit of a key.
3. Add a death check to the game that counts how many times the player dies
from landing on a monster, and turn the distance on when this reaches a
certain level.
4. Have the distance to monster key available only in the first level or
only on easy mode.
5. Have a death recap if you died by creature attack,
The game could say,
You died by landing directly on the snake.
or
you died because you didn't jump in time.
or
You died because you jumped too early.
or
You died because you jumped within the striking distance of the snake.
6. In a training mode, play a beep when you are at the correct distance to
jump.
