Hello gamers,
Just so that none of this comes as a major surprise to anyone I'm
letting everyone know in advance what my future plans are regarding
public beta 2. As I am going to do a lengthy upgrade to the engine core
it could be a while before the next beta appears. So here is the plans.
First, for quite a while now I have been working on a Engine2D.dll file
which will act as a major game engine for 2D USA Games titles like
Montezuma's Revenge, etc. As much of the code is based on Montezuma's
Revenge itself I'm planning on removing the Montezuma's Revenge custom
engine code from the game and convert the game over to the newer
Engine2D.dll file.
The long term advantages of doing this will be substantial. There will
be a common engine for all side-scrollers and other 2D games from USA
Games which will make maintaining, upgrading, and development much
faster. Eventually, I will be able to write a game level editor that can
use the Engine2D.dll file to share new levels with the host game.
Registration etc can handled be tween the registration program, and the
game via the Engine2D.dll file. As I said advantages are many, and these
are just a few reasons why I am doing this.
Second, I'm going to be completely rewriting the jump code from scratch.
As most of you know there has been several bugs involved with the
current jump code, and I think I really do need to redesign,
restructure, and redo the way jumping is done internally. I am going to
look at how James North did it, since his code worked, and mottle my
version after his jumping code.
Third, I am going to send the game off to my private testers, for
private testing to work any bugs out of the beta.
Finally, once I am sure it is stable enough to be put out to the public
it will be released.
As far as a time frame I don't know how long this will take. It could be
as little as two weeks or as long as a month. i don't really know until
I actually do it.
