Hi, I answered Shane's question off list, but I want to share the solution here so others don't make the same mistake. The Montezuma's Return manual as well as the USA Games FAQ page specifically state the proper order of installation is:
1. Install .NET Framework 3.0. 2. Install DirectX August 2007. 3. Install USA Games product or products. Failing to install our games in this exact order will cause our games to crash and fail. The reason is DirectX will not properly install and register it's .NET components unless a working and properly registered .NET Framework is installed first. Unfortunately, this tends to be our number one problem amung new USA Games customers, and we strongly recommend reading our docs before doing an install the first time.
