some are patrol, ie, you fly around several points.some are transport, ie, you buy some goods and take them somewhere. Later on you get lots of sorts of missions as well.
One idea that's been floated around the nielsbauer forums is the idea of other trading style missions where someone asks you to fetch a specific object for them, ----- but these haven't been implemented yet.
