The game that I recommend is KChess Elite from
www.arkangles.com
It works well with screen readers as long as you be sure to check the
checkbox for screen reader use during the installation of the game. The
game is a demo for 30 days, and well worth the money they charge for it
after that period of time. Time settings and skill levels are the widest
range of any other accessible chess game I know of. And sighted players can
use it, too. When I play chess, I always use my own board and men rather
than arrowing all over a screen using speech to see the board that is on the
