Dark, The way the gold economy is set up, there's really no effective way to have shopkeepers buy items for reasonable gold prices. For all intents and purposes, it's best to just assume shopkeepers will never have the gold to buy anything.
I look at this every now and again to see if I can find a way to let them buy stuff, but as I said I've yet to find a way that doesn't cause bigger problems elsewhere.
