Hi Ben, Sorry, to hear that. Castaways is actually a very decent game once you know how to play it, and to be honest I never thought much documentation was needed.
To give you an example you said the game kept giving you the "you can't build hear error" which means you are trying to build on rocky ground or on a forest or something. The obvious solution to that problem is to find a clear patch of ground where you can build a building or create a farm. I would have thought that would be just common sense. :D Cheers!
