I actually was able to use a vista system that I did a maintainance thing with.
You could set the vista start menu to use the xp start menu, and the control panel to classic and it worked as expected. True I never did much more than that but if you switched the display theme to classic everything functioned as you would expect in xp.

Vista was the first version of Windows to not have a classic desktop
and start menu option. It was the first version of Windows to use the
U.I. that Windows 7 uses. So I don't think you know what you are
talking about there. :D
