I do something similar darren, but that was a space concern rather than
backing up. programs, documents, favourites etc all stay on my c drive which
has about 500 gb of memory, but for space reasons last year I installed
another drive with 1tb onto which i've transfered all my audio books and
music.
This is however more about saving space and not to do with backing up, which
I do with a separate external 2 tb drive.
Beware the grue!
